Current Work at Vindolanda: Archaeological Leather and the Precarious Future of Organic Evidence

Presented by Dr. Elizabeth M. Greene and the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, this free, public lecture explores the incredible assemblage of organic materials (including almost 5,000 leather shoes) uncovered at the site of Vindolanda on the northern frontier of Britain. This talk will present current work on archaeological leather at the ancient Roman site before discussing how climate change affects this valuable material—and the steps researchers are taking to assess and address it.
