Producers of Popeye, Betty Boop and Superman cartoons, Fleischer Studios was once the premier animation studio in the world, competing head-to-head with Walt Disney. Thanks to its grittier style and technical innovations, its most popular creations have remained vital for decades, even after the studio was acquired by Paramount Pictures in 1942.
