Jack Dempsey Historic Lecture: Warriors for Liberty

Award-winning author, Civil War, and Michigan history expert, Jack Dempsey, will discuss his latest book, Warriors for Liberty, documenting the Civil War’s famed First Michigan Colored Infantry Regiment, a 1,500-member unit of volunteer soldiers, plus the men and women of color who contributed to defending and extending human liberty. Warriors for Liberty sheds unprecedented light on the heroism, patriotism, and fortitude of Michiganders of African descent during this tumultuous era in American history. Jack will also sign three of his books being sold at the event, proceeds going toward funding a State State of Michigan monument on Antietam National Battlefield.
