'The Queen Next Door' book launch
Photojournalist Linda Solomon's The Queen Next Door offers a look at events in her friend Aretha Franklin's life, both big and small. They show benefit concerts, award shows, backstages at concerts, rehearsals, intimate family gatherings, lavish parties, and quiet moments, like Franklin escaping the lavish party to listen to her Sade records in her bedroom. The book, Solomon says, is a tribute to both her and Franklin's family, which, over time, became one.
The Queen Next Door book launch will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the DIA; 5200 Woodward Ave., Detroit; 313-833-7900; dia.org.
