Voices & Rhythms: Michelle Jahra McKinney w/ Ian Fink & Michael Abbo
When: Fri., Sept. 5, 7-10:30 p.m. 2025
Michelle Jahra McKinney is a native Detroiter, archivist, librarian, singer and griot who now serves as Director of the Detroit Sound Conservancy. For her performance at Moondog, McKinney will be sharing a wide array of compositions by her late husband Harold McKinney, a pianist and composer who, along with Wendell Harrison, founded the Tribe collective and made substantial and lasting impacts on jazz education throughout Detroit. She’ll be joined by pianist, producer and composer Ian Fink as well as bassist Michael Abbo for an evening of music, recollection and storytelling, honoring the ancestry of a Detroit musical legacy.
