You can volunteer to maintain one of 25 rain gardens at the Plymouth Arts & Recreation Center (PARC). These beautiful, hard-working gardens catch up to 225,000 gallons of rainwater each time it rains!
When rain gardens absorb stormwater, this prevents flooding and filters pollutants so they don’t dump into the river. Rain gardens are planted with deep-rooted native plants that also provide habitat for songbirds, butterflies, other pollinators, and wildlife. Plus, they’re beautiful! Friends of the Rouge staff and volunteers have built over 150 rain gardens in southeast Michigan since 2015.
